MEGAWATI’S SINCERE WORDS TO THE MARTYR AYATULLAH SEYYED ALI KHAMEINI

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

GTI-Today, with a heart full of profound sorrow and with deep respect, I, Megawati Soekarno Putri, the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia and General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, also as the daughter of Dr. (Engineer) Soekarno, famously known as Bung Karno, Father of the Nation and First President of the Republic of Indonesia, convey this message as a friend to the people of Iran.

The passing of His Eminence Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is not only a great loss for the Iranian nation but has also shaken the hearts of many who love justice, national sovereignty, and humanity across the entire world. For me personally, the figure of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was not merely a political leader or religious figure from a nation known for being deeply patriotic and never knowing the word surrender. In him, I saw the echo of the struggle pioneered by my father, Bung Karno.

Since his youth, His Eminence Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had known, admired, and read the speeches and thoughts of Bung Karno. It is no surprise that he helped formulate Iran's path as a synthesis between religion, nationalism, and social justice, which also aspired for a world free from the shackles of imperialism and colonialism. I still clearly recall my official visit to Tehran in 2004 when I served as the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia.

It was during that meeting that I had the opportunity to meet him face-to-face. At that time, I felt a very strong radiance of charisma and a profound depth of serenity. He was a cleric who was gentle yet firm in holding to his principles.

At the same time, he was a statesman who was sensitive to the suffering of his nation. I remember how Ayatollah Ali Khamenei regarded Pancasila and the Spirit of Bandung as important references in formulating the vision of an independent and dignified Iran. For me, this was not diplomatic praise.

It was an acknowledgment that there is a deep spiritual bridge between our two nations. A bridge built from shared experiences of fighting colonialism, foreign intervention, and historical wounds, as well as the hope for a more just and dignified world. Therefore, today as we bid farewell to his blessed remains, I feel not only the loss of an Iranian leader but also a guardian of the flame of the Third World's struggle.

Today, in fond memory of him, I wish to reaffirm my commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means, fair dialogue, and respect for international law and humanity, not through violence and unilateral armed aggression. To the bereaved family, the leaders and scholars of Iran, and the entire Iranian people, permit me to offer my most sincere prayers. May Allah, the Most Gracious and Merciful, ease his path, accept all his struggles and deeds, and forgive any shortcomings.

May the people of Iran be granted strength, unity, and wisdom to navigate these difficult times amidst the raging storms of history. Farewell, my noble brother, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. We bid you farewell with prayers, respect, and a brotherhood that time will never erode.

Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Merdeka!
