GTI-The Indonesian nation has experienced a long 350-year history of random colonialism. Portuguese (1509-1642), Spanish (1521-1529), Dutch (1596-1945), French (1808-1811), British (1811-1816), and Japanese (1942-1945). Due to the long period of suffering caused by colonialism, the founders of the Republic of Indonesia, in 1945, included the right to independence as a nation in the preamble to the constitution and actively eradicated colonialism from the face of the earth as a symbol and main characteristic (urgency) of the nation's emergence.
Since its inception, Indonesia has constitutionally supported Palestinian independence and did not recognize Israel as a state (1948). However, in recent developments, Indonesia's anti-colonial identity has drastically shifted to a pro-colonial one since President Prabowo signed the Trump-created Board of Peace (BoP) and the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART). These two agreements opened the door wide open for political and economic slavery for Indonesia and changed the true identity of the Indonesian nation.
Prabowo ignored at least four geopolitical facts, resulting in Indonesia's political support for colonialism and the changing identity of the Republic of Indonesia. Prabowo did not officially declare his support for colonialism, but his political decisions and policies brought Indonesia into a coalition with colonialism.
First, Trump and Netanyahu are perpetrators of genocide against 500,000 Gazans, since October 7, 2026. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who are charged with genocide against the Gazan population, on November 21, 2024. However, Indonesia and Israel are both members of the BOP, which automatically makes the BOP a tool for legitimizing or protecting genocide.
Second, Trump's interview on January 9, 2026, by the New York Times, following the kidnapping of Venezuelan President-elect Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on January 3, 2026, and his ambition to control Greenland. Trump considers US national power to be more important than international law, treaties, or conventions. Trump stated, "My own morality, my own mind... can stop me. I don't need international law." Prabowo did not condemn the intervention and kidnapping of President Maduro. Prabowo faced a dilemma: condemning Trump meant condemning the BOP and ART, which Prabowo himself signed. Therefore, signing the BOP and ART would render Indonesia a colonial prisoner.
Third, Marco Rubio's speech in February 2026, at the Munich security conference, called on Europe to help revive the colonial rule of Western civilization in Latin America, Africa, and the South. There have been no official reports of a reaction or direct statement from President Prabowo Subianto specifically addressing this controversial statement. This suggests that Prabowo has been hegemonized by US imperialism.
Fourth, Trump-Netanyahu assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, his family, and 176 elementary school girls, as well as the US-Israel military aggression against Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Prabowo did not express his condolences directly and instead offered to mediate, rather than condemning the US-Israel aggression. Iran's position as a key supporter of Palestine was ignored by Prabowo. Iran's retaliatory attacks on Israel and its military bases in the region gave hope for Palestinian independence, delighted the Indonesian people, and exposed the BOP and ATR. They were not the Board of Peace, but the Board of War for Israel. The ATR was also clearly indicated as a financing tool for the US-Israel war against Iran.
From these four geopolitical facts, Trump-Netanyahu are clearly practicing colonial politics, reviving imperialism. They are attempting to implement the Greater Israel colonial project and planning the construction of colonial settlements in Gaza.
BOP, Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), and Military Aggression against Iran
Indonesia's political stance following the signing of the BOP and the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), and the assassination of Seyyed Ali Khameni and the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran clearly positions Indonesia in the same camp as Trump and Netanyahu.
Indonesia cannot justify its consistent adherence to a free and active policy, the freedom to choose and support what is right. However, the freedom to choose and support what is wrong is evident in two pieces of evidence: the signing of the BOP and ART, and the failure to condemn the assassination of the Iranian leader and the military aggression against Iran by Trump and Netanyahu, clearly violates international law. Furthermore, Iran's retaliation against Israel, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which guarantees a state's inherent right to self-defense in the event of an armed attack, is not supported by the Prabowo administration.
This evidence shows that the Prabowo administration is more loyal to Trump and Netanyahu than to international and UN law. It is more focused on fearing Trump and Netanyahu than on upholding the mandate of the Indonesian Constitution.
The majority of Indonesians certainly support Palestine and Iran against the US-Israeli occupation, as this is in accordance with the Indonesian constitution. But now, de jure (political policy), not a political statement, the Indonesian government now supports the US and Israel.
The Indonesian people are pleased that Iran is bold and capable of attacking Israeli territory and US military bases in the Gulf, as they are the main source of colonialism in the Middle East. However, the signing of the BOP and the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) by the Indonesian government is irrefutable evidence that Indonesia supports the US and Israel. Prabowo stated that the importance of Israel's security means recognizing Israel as a state, as an implementation of normalization policies (colonial policies). Trump stated that the US has unlimited access to seize Indonesia's wealth (colonial economic policies).
The US and Israel are a single entity, with two faces of the state, dreaming of a Greater Israel. Meanwhile, Iran and Palestine are two faces, with one interest: liberating the world from US-Israeli colonialism.
For decades, almost no country has been close to the US while simultaneously being distant from Israel. But if a country is close to Iran, it is usually close to Palestine. The Indonesian government is trying to get closer to the US, hoping to help Palestine. That won't happen, because the US is trying to bring Indonesia closer to Israel through normalization. The Board of Peace (BoP) and the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) are designed as tools for normalization at the political and economic levels.
President Prabowo Subianto signed the Board of Peace (BoP) charter on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Davos, Switzerland, and the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Washington, DC. These two agreements legally transfer Indonesia's political and economic sovereignty to the control of the unipolar powers—the US and Israel.
Politically, Indonesia has shifted its policy from supporting Palestine to supporting Israel. The Board of Peace (BoP) is not dedicated to the reconstruction of Gaza, but has become a covert alliance supporting the US-Israel attack on Iran on February 28, 2026. Gaza is not being reconstructed, while Iran, Palestine's strongest supporter, is being destroyed.
In the Bylaws, Indonesia is required to fulfill approximately 214 provisions, while the US only implements nine. This situation is far from the claimed spirit of reciprocity.
Prabowo's choice not to condemn the US-Israel military attack on Iran is evidence of Prabowo's support for the US and Israel, not an independent and active policy. The failure to express condolences to Iran's Supreme Leader, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated along with his family is further evidence that Prabowo is steering Indonesia away from Iran, a leading supporter of Palestine.
Another piece of evidence is Luhut Binsar Panjaitan's statement, as Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), "Amidst the tug-of-war of great power interests, the principle of an independent and active foreign policy must continue to be the most relevant guideline for this nation. Indonesia is not in a position to side with any country." This statement contradicts the reality on the ground. Indonesia has already sided with the US and Israel through the BOP, because Israel is a member, while Palestine is not.
This means that Indonesia, pursuing a "free and active policy," has chosen an alliance with the US and Israel to support an attack on Iran through the BOP without the Indonesian government realizing it. Thus, the BOP has been prepared to serve as a precondition—a political and economic tool, legitimizing an attack on Iran. Prabowo's proposal for peace (negotiations) between the US, Israel, and Iran clearly aligns with Trump's stated desire for negotiations. Yet, the two previous negotiations—the first and second—were a ploy by Trump and Netanyahu to assassinate high-ranking Iranian officials, a ploy to attack Iran. Therefore, it's hard to say that Prabowo isn't following Trump's lead.
Implementation of Colonialism
Now, Prabowo cannot deny that Indonesia has sided with Israel-US. The proof is that after the war, Indonesia was obliged to implement a trade agreement with the US that benefited the US and triggered a widening oil and gas balance deficit. Indonesia's energy purchases from the US are clear: the funds will be used to invade and destroy Iran.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed that Indonesia imports crude oil and fuel from the United States (US) worth US$15 billion, or approximately Rp 253 trillion. This step was taken as part of a bilateral trade agreement and to mitigate energy supply risks due to the conflict in the Middle East, particularly the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Indonesia is obliged to import food commodities from the US within set quotas: 1,000 tons of soybeans, 100,000 tons of corn, 150,000 tons of cotton, 50,000 tons of beef, 26,000 tons of apples, 5,000 tons of grapes, and other commodities that will devastate Indonesian farmers.
Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara, Executive Director of the Center for Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), emphasized that the Bylaws (ART) failed to consider national interests. "The Bylaws (ART) are an agreement that fundamentally changes the direction of Indonesia's economic policy, moving from national sovereignty to structural dependence on the economic and political interests of the United States. The government cannot make such a commitment without consulting the House of Representatives (DPR) and the public. This is not only a procedural violation, but also a denial of the constitution, the spirit of the Bandung Ten Principles, and the principles of Indonesia's independent and active political system," Bhima said.
During the war, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the Indonesian National Economic Council, acted as a Pentagon spokesman rather than an Indonesian one by amplifying Trump's statements about the bombing of Iranian missile launches and naval vessels. He also emphasized the possibility of regime change in Iran. Luhut did not mention Iran's bombing of US military bases in the region used to attack Iran.
"According to our friends in the US, regime change in Iran is still possible," "The Iranian navy has been destroyed by the US."
"If we look at the next slide, the number of missiles fired by Iran has decreased sharply; now 50% of missile launches have reportedly been destroyed," Luhut said.
In line with Trump's statement, "We have already destroyed 100% of Iran's military capability."
Prabowo and Luhut graduated from military training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Fort Benning, south of Columbus, Georgia, near the Alabama border. Two US-raised generals serve the interests of Trump, Netanyahu, the Epstein Files, and unlimited colonialism. Neither is acting in accordance with the mandate of the Indonesian constitution, which is anti-colonial.
