GTI-Indonesian President, Prabowo signed the BOP (Board of Peace) on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Davos, Switzerland. Britain and France, two veto-wielding countries, refused to join. Germany, Spain, Italy, and Norway also rejected it, citing weak legitimacy and the potential for it to take over the role of the UN. Why do Prabowo and several Indonesian Islamic organizations insist on adopting a strategy for Palestinian independence, while Palestine, as a subject, is excluded ? The global media generally did not seriously discuss it because, in addition to the credibility of the BOP, it also weighed against Trump's previous controversial maneuvers.
Trump's credibility is unquestionable as a sponsor of genocide, serving as the BOP's lifetime chairman, BOP participants at Trump's invitation, the Executive Board consisting of Israeli cronies and supporters, and Israel's membership as a primary perpetrator of genocide.
Trump himself admitted, he is international law and intends to withdraw from the UN and NATO. However, these stark facts, devoid of any international legal basis, are considered facts that must be followed and adjusted by the Prabowo administration. Therefore, even though the BOP lacks data pointing to Palestinian independence, it is still considered the only option for Palestinian liberation.
In fact, the BOP itself is designed for the benefit of Israel, not Palestine. The BOP and Trump's 20 proposals are designed to forget the perpetrators of genocide, disarm Hamas, expel the remaining Gazans, and build mega-real estate as a deceptive strategy.
Prabowo and Gus Dur
Prabowo's controversial decision is reminiscent of the Gus Dur government, which fell due to perceptions of establishing diplomatic relations with Israel under the pretext of supporting Palestinian independence. Prabowo did the same, signing the BOP under the pretext of ending the war and helping achieve Palestinian independence. If Gus Dur was overconfident in his thinking at the time, Prabowo also harbored the same overconfidence, believing that recognizing Israel was the only way to be heard and help achieve Palestinian independence.
The effects of this decision will backfire on Prabowo. Prabowo's speeches at previous international forums, his signature Free Nutrition Program (Makan Gizi Gratis-MBG) and Red and White Village Cooperative (Koperasi Desa Merah Putih), and his 8% economic growth target, are likely to quickly evaporate. Furthermore, the far below-average geopolitical literacy of Prabowo, the presidential staff, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will influence this decision and accelerate Prabowo's decline in popularity.
One of the fundamental reasons the public finds unacceptable for Prabowo's decision to sign the BOP is the exclusion of Palestine from the BOP, either as a subject of reconstruction or as the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The reason for signing the BOP is that the mandate of the UN resolution, acting as a counterweight, is immediately nullified when Palestine, as an object of colonization, is not included. Furthermore, Prabowo's statement recognizing Israel's security without mentioning Palestinian security and independence has heightened public suspicion that Prabowo actually intends to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
For the Indonesian public, establishing diplomatic relations with Israel under the pretext of counterweighting Palestinian independence is a flawed strategy and will open the door to changes to the preamble to the Indonesian Constitution, which could alter the identity and dissolve the country.
"Indeed, independence is the right of all nations, and therefore, colonialism must be abolished throughout the world, as it is inconsistent with humanity and justice."
Literally, this means that Palestine has the right to independence, and Israel, as a colonial state, must be abolished. This means that the apartheid colonial system and its adherence to Zionist racial supremacy must be abolished because they are incompatible with humanity and justice. The word "abolish" here refers to the elimination of the "racial supremacist ideology" that prevents Israel from recognizing the Palestinian people as equals. Both have the right not to be colonized, and both have the right to resist the occupation.
From May 14, 1948, when Israel was declared a state, until now, 2026, the United States has acted as a broker for the peace process, not as an implementer of peace and justice. In fact, in the name of peace, the United States has played a major role in successfully expanding Israel's territory by 95% and assisting in the genocide of the Palestinian people. Between 2023 and 2026, under Trump, it successfully assisted Netanyahu in the genocide of 500.000 Gazans.
From 1948 to 1967, the US assisted Israel in the genocide and expulsion of 700, 000 Palestinians, whitewashing it with the "two-state solution" propaganda that was successfully implanted in many foreign ministries of most UN member states. BOP is a type of two-state solution peace, the final volume.
The US under Trump also continues to support the genocide and expulsion project in the West Bank. It helped expand Israel's territory into Syria by annexing the Golan Heights through military operations, and it installed Julani, a former Alqaida and founder of Jabat Al-Nusro, as president of Syria without an election.
Israel's territorial expansion project will continue, along with Trump's many maneuvers—functioning as a deception in the eyes of the world. It kidnapped Venezuela's elected president, Maduro. It annexed Greenland, genocided the Sudanese people with the help of the UAE, recognized Somalialand as a country to establish a US-Israeli military base, and attacked the Houthis in Yemen. It triggered limited wars between India and Pakistan, Cambodia and Thailand, and attacked Putin's residence through Ukraine. This series of maneuvers occurred after Trump proposed 20 peace proposals for Gaza and culminated in the legalization of the BOP signing.
